Vitamin C And Skin Care

Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble nutrient and strong antioxidant. Topical vitamin C is very unstable in the presence of oxygen. This makes it difficult to prepare for skin care products, although it is a popular ingredient. It protects against harmful sun exposure by neutralizing free radicals.

Vitamin C is also important in collagen formation. Collagen is a fibrous protein of ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue. It provides the skin with strength, resilience, and elasticity.

Where can you get Vitamin C?

Citrus fruits, berries, green and red peppers, tomatoes, and broccoli and some good sources of vitamin C. Getting too little Vitamin C can lead to scurvy.

See Vitamin C – Wikipedia for more on Vitamin C.
